The Lion In the Lion's Den
Daniel and the Lion’s Den told from the lion’s perspective.
It's dark. It's always dark. So I learned to see in the dark. I look over at the others with me and they are sleeping. Always sleeping. I am hungry. Always hungry. Never enough food. I only get food when the light comes. When the top opens, a human descends and we are finally allowed to eat.
It was different once, though. The day started the same, in the dark. I was hungry. I was so hungry it hurt. Then, a human fell down. I lunged at the human, mouth open, when just as fast, I stopped.
I was no longer hungry. I closed my mouth, no longer wanting to eat the human in front of me, but to protect him. A bright light appeared and spoke. I didn't pay much attention, because I already knew what it was saying.
I then walked up to the human and waited. He held out his hand. I leaned into it, and he stroked my fur. The others also came and were touched by the human, and there we stayed, until the top opened again. For the first time, a human was taken out instead of thrown in.
After the human left, the hunger returned, but I was not hungry for long. The top opened again. Three humans got dropped in, and I was hungry no more.
